Abandoned Buildings |
||
|
Central SNT are seeing an increase in young people accessing abandoned buildings, climbing onto roofs, and exploring unsafe sites across the area — and we need to be very clear about the risks involved.
These locations may look like somewhere to explore or have a bit of fun, but they pose serious and often life-changing dangers. Many abandoned buildings are structurally unsafe, with weakened floors, loose brickwork, and hidden hazards that can collapse without warning. Roofs are particularly dangerous, with a real risk of falls from height that can result in severe injury or worse.
There are also additional risks including:
We want to remind young people that entering these sites is not only unsafe but can also amount to trespassing, which may lead to police involvement.
Parents and carers — please take a moment to speak with your children about the dangers of entering abandoned buildings or climbing onto roofs. What might seem like harmless curiosity can quickly turn into a serious incident.
Our priority is keeping everyone safe. Patrols in affected areas will be increased, and we will continue to work with partners to secure vulnerable locations.
If you are aware of locations being accessed or have concerns, please report this to us via 101 or online. In an emergency, always call 999.
Let’s work together to prevent avoidable harm and keep our community safe.
Kind regards
The Nedge Safer Neighbourhood Team.
